Friday Keynote Speaker: Dr. Marijel (Maggie) Melo Melo explores the impact of the Maker Movement by focusing on the implications of the widespread integration of makerspaces in higher education. Specifically, this talk examines the configuration of a makerspace: an inherently gendered, raced, and classed environment that frequently discourages marginalized communities from participating therein. This keynote will extend strategies to cultivate tech-centric learning environments that are intentionally designed to be more equitable and inclusive.
