MyMedia – Officially Available!

After a semester and a half of beta testing, upgrades, and reconfigurations, the official MyMedia launch has arrived! MyMedia enables students, faculty, and staff to create, store, and distribute video content. Based on feedback from faculty, staff and students on campus, we are confident that our new video streaming solution will greatly enhance the academic experience. Here are a few features of this new service offering from OU IT:

  • Content within MyMedia can be kept private, shared only with those at OU, or made publicly available.
  • Existing video files can be easily uploaded to MyMedia for distribution.
  • MyMedia also supports webcam recording and screen capture – making it easy to add a personal touch to your course or provide a quick overview of a task.
  • Additionally, MyMedia features a full integration with OU Desire2Learn – ensuring you have access when it matters most.

MyMedia loading on a desktop computer, tablet, and smartphone.MyMedia provides a solution that is completely platform, operating system, and device agnostic. You no longer need to worry if your students will have a consistent playback experience. When a user requests to play a video, MyMedia automatically identifies the device type, operating system, browser, and internet connection speed, then selects the ideal version of the video to provide the best viewing experience for each user.

Following an in-depth product investigation, we began seeking testers for a beta phase in Fall 2013. During this time, our beta testers uploaded nearly 1100 unique videos. These videos were played a total of 32,514 times accounting for nearly 181 days of video viewed! We also had over 30 courses in OU Desire2Learn utilize MyMedia during this time.

We are excited to officially introduce MyMedia to the OU community and hope that you are able to leverage MyMedia to bring additional value to the educational experience. Go ahead and get started at mymedia.ou.edu!
