v10 D2L Sneak Peek: Introducing the Minibar

One of the great new features in v10 of Desire2Learn is the minibar!  The  new minibar provides consistent access to courses, alerts and personal settings – no matter where you are in OU D2L.

The first new navigation option is the course selector drop-down. The course selector drop-down provides access to all of your courses via a search feature. The best way to search for a course is to know the CRN (5 digit code you can find on oZONE), you can also search by course title. You can switch between courses from the drop-down without returning to My Home and search through the My Courses widget. You can also pin courses so they remain at the top of your list!

Next up, are the new alert icons. The middle “Updates” icon provides updates for new news items, new grade items, and upcoming due dates for uncompleted activities. The right “Subscriptions” icon provides updates for topics and forums you have subscribed to in Discussions. When you have a new alert, a red dot will appear. Here’s a look at how the information is presented:

The far right is where you’ll find the new personal menu. The personal menu replaces the current welcome widget with your profile picture on the homepage. You can setup your personal profile, email and text notifications from here – this is also where you’ll now go to log out!

Don’t forget about the upgrade on May 25th – the site will be unavailable for the majority of this date, and it will look quite different when you log in again on the 26th. For more information, head on over to the upgrade information.

Keep an eye out for our next sneak peek!
